Peter Lindberghs vakre verden

Peter Lindbergh er en av de virkelig store motefotografene, og en av de første jeg la merke til med en moteserie med Helena Christensen. Lindbergh er tysk, født i Polen i 1944, som Peter Brodbeck. Han studerte maling på en kunstskole, men byttet til fotografi i 1971 og etablerte seg som reklamefotograf. I 1978 flyttet han til Paris og konsentrerte seg om motefotografering. Bildene hans er publisert i magasiner som Vogue og Harper's Bazaar, og han var en av toppfotografene under den føste supermodell-bølgen på 1990-tallet hvor han fotograferte modeller som Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Stephanie Seymour, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington og Naomi Campbell. Alexander McQueens siste kolleksjon vil bli vist under motevisningene i Paris i mars. Kolleksjonen var nesten ferdig da designeren bestemte seg for å ende sitt eget liv. Den tragiske nyheten rystet moteverden og motehuset venter ekstra stor pågang om plassene til det siste moteshowet fra denne fantastisk talenfulle designeren.

Alexander McQueen Fall 2010 Collection Will Be Presented During Paris Fashion Week.

Chief executive officer of Gucci Group, Robert Polet announced this morning that despite the suicide last week of its founder and creative director, the Alexander McQueen business will go on. PPR confirmed the Alexander McQueen fall 2010 collection, most of which was completed before McQueen's suicide, will show during Paris Fashion Week. According to the current schedule, the runway show will be held on March 9 at 8:30PM.

The Green Carpet Challenge

A Rainbow without the Footprint

The awards season is flying by. Here we are at the Baftas already (they are on Sunday night), and that means it's decision time once more.
My initial strategy with the Green Carpet Challenge was to blend in or assimilate on the red carpet, sneaking in sustainable fashion - primarily through vintage or repurposing. So I'm reasonably shocked that for Sunday I'm going for the brightest option I could find. I'm getting quite bold in colour and purpose!

"Responsible design" wasn't supposed to look like this. If you ask ten people what responsible, ethical or sustainable design looks like -providing they understood the question - I bet eight of them would still say something along the lines of "sludge coloured, hemp". So I love the fact that Hafzi presents us with riotously coloured soft silk and confounds all our prejudices. Although I note she also pioneered high-end hemp in her first collection back in 1997.

I was genuinely excited by her pieces when Heidi from Vie PR introduced me to them in LA. In common with other visionary designers, she turns the production system on its head to fit her sustainable agenda. She started out by going to local tailors in Nepal to learn how to build a garment - and then moved on to developing an environmentally friendly production cycle. Obviously colour was a massive issue as dyes are so ecologically impactful. So Leila has pioneered AZO-free dyes and alternative ayurvedic colours to get a rainbow without the footprint. Her production chain is short, controlled and transparent, bringing vital work to the tailors she works with in Nepal. You've frequently suggested Leila Hafzi as a huge talent that deserves as many outings on the red carpet as she can get. I read an interview with Leila on Ecofashionworld where the interviewer was of the same opinion, "the world's divas haven't yet discovered Leila Hafzi's show-stopping gowns. However, judging from the audience's reaction at the Ethical Fashion Show in Paris, and the awards that keep pilling up, we know it's only a matter of time." And Leila herself said she would love to dress Cate Blanchett or Uma Thurman.
Well, I'm afraid she's got little old me on Sunday at the Baftas, but I promise to pitch Leila to Cate or Uma if I see them there!

Alice i Coutureland

Nicholas Kirkwood har designet et par eventyrlige sko til det franske varemagasinet Printemps. Skoen kan sees i en utstilling inspirert av Alice i Eventyrland i varemagasinets vinduer. Blant de andre designerne som har designet hvet sitt vindu i denne utstillingen er Chloé, Christopher Kane, Ann Demeulemeester, Alexander McQueen, Bernhard Willhelm, Charles Anastase, Haider Ackermann, Manish Arora og Maison Martin Margiela

“I think my favorite Alice character is the March Hare. You can see I’ve made his watch rather prominent. This was a different design process for me, because I’m not usually so applicative—typically, I’m thinking about line, silhouette. She’s seated at a table having tea, and her dress looks much more asymmetrical and theatrical than that boring Walt Disney version. It was also an auto-reference to my collections, as Lewis Carroll’s work has been one of the main inspirations of my label since its creation. Alice Liddell, the real little girl with long dark hair who inspired Carroll, is one of the very few icons that I have. The pictures of her are a constant inspiration for me.” —Charles Anastase

Den kinesiske artisten Li Xiaofeng har designet fantastiske klær av tradisjonell kinesisk porselen. Han syr poselensbitene på en underkjole eller et plagg av lær. Porselensklærne åpnes i sidene eller bak, og kan faktisk brukes.

Noen land rundt Middelhavet, som Hellas, har en gammel nyttårs-tradisjon med med å knuse servise for å kvitte seg med materielle goder og på den måten motta det nye året. Li Xiaofeng ble inspirert av denne tradisjonen og fant en måte å resirkulere glass og porselen i sin nye artistiske kleskolleksjon.

Some Mediterranean countries, such as Greece, have the millennial tradition of breaking the crockery to get rid of material goods in order to receive the New Year. The Chinese designer Li Xiaofeng was inspired by this tradition and found a way of recycling glass and porcelain remains in her new line of artistic clothing.

True Blood smykkekolleksjonen fra HBO er designet av Uri Behr. Vampyrer har blitt trendy etter at HBO's tv-serie True Blood kom på skjermen.

Jeg har alltid elsker påfuglfjær og påfuglmønster, og Matthew Williamson er en designer som tydligvis deler samme smak:-)

Matthew Williamson har designet tepper for The Rug Company. Jeg skulle veldig gjerne hatt et par av dette teppet, et til stua og et til soverommet.....

Matthew Williamson designer fantastiske ting. Han kom med sin første fargesterke kolleksjon i 1997, med modeller som Jade Jagger, Helena Christensen og Kate Moss i sitt første catwalk-show. Inspirasjonen med eksotiske mønstre og sterke farger hadde han med seg fra India hvor han jobbet tidligere som designer for Monsoon. Stilen kjennetegnes av global traveller, Ibiza-luksushippie og frihet i farger og mønstre. Ikke mange designere kombinerer farger og mønstre med like sikker hånd som Matthew Williamson.
